Cape Breton First Nation Water Deemed Safe but Unsuitable for Drinking

Health Canada says the water at a Cape Breton First Nation may not look or smell very nice but insists it’s safe. The agency says high levels of manganese and iron at the Potlotek First Nation at Chapel Island give the water a foul odour and discolouration. While Health Canada says the water is fine for bathing and flushing toilets they have recommended bottled water for drinking. The Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office and Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada are now collaborating to provide the community with bottled water.
