CBRM post-storm help
CBRM post-storm help
Curbsides in the flood stricken areas are piling up with soaked furniture, appliances; and carpets as people begin the big cleanup.
CBRM’s Solid Waste Department will collect materials that have been damaged or destroyed. Residents who have materials are asked to put them curbside on their regular collection day, but keep everything in a separate location from regular household materials.
Troy MacDonald, a Glace Bay construction project manager; told the Cape Breton Post flood damage in a typical finished basement can run from $40,000 to $60,000. He has some tips for people cleaning up, seek advice before you start. Get an electrician in to make sure it’s safe, and wear protective gear such as gloves and masks.
CBRM is putting together a damage assessment list. It wants affected residents to call its helpdesk at 902-562-HELP (4357). Crews will then come out to check your property and assess the damage. The province is also putting together estimates of the damage before going to Ottawa for disaster assistance.
