First NS budget update projects surplus increase

The province’s first 2016-17 budget update projects a small surplus increase. The net position is projected to be $18.9 million, up $1.8 million from budget day. Revenue and expenses are both up, mostly as a result of taking advantage of new federal-provincial cost-sharing programs in areas including clean drinking water and wastewater, post-secondary education, transportation infrastructure and innovative ocean research.
