Commemoration of End of World War I

On Saturday, November 10th, the North Sydney Historical Society will be commemorating the centennial of the end of World War I with the following events:

930 AM Receipt of the message containing the news of the armistice to become effect on November 11th will be recreated at the North Sydney Museum, which will become ‘Western Union for a day’.

1015 AM A parade will form up at the entrance to Smelt Brook Park on Queen Street and proceed down Queen and Commercial Streets to the North Sydney Museum.

1100 AM Upon arrival of the parade at the Museum, participants and spectators will be addressed by members of the North Sydney Historical Society, and representatives of CBRM, Province of Nova Scotia and the Federal Government.

200 PM  A program of music performed by Chalkdust will be offered at Ferrisview School.  Also on the program will be recalling the names of the citizens of North Sydney who served in one of the branches of the Canadian armed services, medical corp (including Nursing Sisters), or merchant marines.  This will include short stories depicting some of the effects of the war on North Sydney and its citizens.

600 PM A bonfire will be lit a the Ballast Grounds to cap off the day’s activities.  This event will include a special surprise – one that will make North Sydney the first once again.
