Event Navigation
Cape Breton’s rail infrastructure has been central to the Island’s economic prosperity and all Nova Scotia for 100 years or more. Cape Breton has abundant maritime, mineral and export opportunities, but leveraging them requires access to rail.
The Scotia Rail Development Society (SRDS) has scheduled a public meeting for:
Sunday, September 10, 2:00 pm, Lighthouse Concourse, Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion, Sydney, NS
Agenda items include:
Introduction of the new Executive of the SRDS and changes in structure and membership following the death of Father Greg MacLeod.
- Assessment by Universal Rail regarding feasibility for construction of a Donkin / Sydney rail line for coal transportation, rather than by motor vehicle transport
- SRDS discussions with the Port of Sydney officials and their support of maintaining the rail as it is a critical feature for development of the Sydney container terminal.
Elected and non-elected officials have been invited to give commentary and updates on the rail issue.
